It took a great deal of care and preparation to harvest your birds. If it was easy everyone would do it. Don't take the easy way out now. Reward yourself with one of these great duck recipes. You owe it to yourself after all that hard work. Processing Ducks - duck recipes Ducks can be processed in a number of ways. Many hunters simply remove the breast meat of the duck and discard the remaining portions of the bird. While this removes the large majority of the meat of the bird it is not the best method if one wants great table fair. Plucking all waterfowl is the best way to prepare them. Plucking a duck is a simple matter of removing all of the feathers but it can be very time consuming. Pin feathers and other small hair like feathers make removal difficult. Using wax will greatly aid the plucking of waterfowl and other birds. Wax can be purchased from a number of suppliers and is not expensive. The wax should be heated in a large pot of water. The large turkey frying pots with their gas heat source work great for this. Simply pluck as many of the feathers off the bird by hand as possible. Once the wax has melted dip the bird in the wax to give it a nice coating. Then allow the wax to cool. You may dip them in a pail of cold water to speed the process. Once the wax has hardened remove it from the bird. The wax should pull all of the feathers off with it. You should be left with a cleanly plucked bird.
